Tallassee Now! - City Politics

Tallassee City politics are bursting at the seam!  That’s good!  Eight years ago, there was practically no interest in the city elections, and there were very few contested races.  There was increased interest four years ago, but nothing like the current interest.  We obviously have a lot of people in Tallassee who think that City government can do a better job and that they can help make it happen.  That is a good blueprint for progress.

One of the things that is likely to happen as numerous people become interested and involved in City government is that ideas will emerge and debates will occur.  The people can choose.  That’s the nature of democracy.

Bill could bring more film production to Alabama

Bill could bring more film production to Alabama

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley Thursday signed a bill that will allow Alabama to compete more effectively for film production in the state.

HB243, sponsored by Representative Terri Collins and carried by Senator Gerald Dial, increases incentives allowed for filming projects in the State of Alabama from $10 million per project to $20 million per project. The minimum that can be spent remains at $500,000 and the percentages received (25 percent for expenditures and 35 percent for hiring residents) also remain the same.

This new amendment also increases the amount that can be rebated per year to qualified productions.

Alabama Congressional delegation backs bill to limit EPA dust regulations

Alabama Congressional delegation backs bill to limit EPA dust regulations

U.S. Reps. Spencer Bachus and Mike Rogers (R-Ala.) were among more than 100 cosponsors of legislation that would limit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from regulating naturally occurring dust. The bill passed the House of Representatives Thursday by a margin of 268-150. All of seven members of Alabama’s congressional delegation supported the bill.

U.S. Reps. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) and Robert Hurt (R-Va.) sponsored the Farm Dust Regulation Prevention Act, H.R. 1633. If it becomes law, the bill would limit (EPA) from regulating naturally occurring dust from rural areas to those areas where it is not regulated under state, tribal or local law, where the nuisance dust causes substantial adverse effects and the benefits of federal regulation outweigh the costs.

Coarse particulate matter (dust) is a naturally occurring substance found mostly in rural areas. It is frequently caused by activities on unpaved roads and in farm fields.
