Southside Middle School names Teacher and Employee of the Month | News
SOUTHSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER OF THE MONTH -- TERA CAGLE
Tera Moore Cagle is in her second year of teaching seventh grade mathematics at Southside Middle School. Mrs. Cagle was born and raised in Birmingham, AL. After graduating from Oak Mountain High School, she attended Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, where she played basketball.
Upon graduation, Mrs. Cagle attended AUM and earned a Master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. Mrs. Cagle completed her student teaching internship at Tallassee High School.
Along with teaching at Southside, Mrs. Cagle enjoys coaching the girl's basketball team at THS. When she is not teaching or coaching, Mrs. Cagle enjoys cooking, crafting, and traveling. She is married to Bobby Cagle, Jr. of Tallassee.
SOUTHSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -- JAMES SEGREST
James Segrest is a special education aide in the multi-handicap room at Southside Middle School. He is a native of this area and earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Auburn University. He is presently working on his Doctorate in history.
Mr. Segrest is the foremost expert on blues musician Howlin' Wolf, and wrote the definitive biography on him, "Moanin' at Midnight". This biography appeared on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list, and Mr. Segrest was interviewed by National Public Radio, WLS Radio in Chicago, and many other major media outlets.
A glowing review appeared in the NEW YORK TIMES REVIEW OF BOOKS. The book has been translated and sold in Finland and Japan, as well as other countries. Mr. Segrest was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame for his historical work on Howlin' Wolf in 2011.
