Tallassee Now! - Another year in the books

It is hard to believe we have another year in the books.  Fortunately for the Greater Tallassee Chamber of Commerce, it has been one of the most fruitful years. That does not mean necessarily monetarily but the Chamber of Commerce has been prosperous in many of its endeavors.

The Chamber of Commerce has been actively pursuing and promoting the best interest of Tallassee throughout the 2012.  The Chamber elected to create a walking map and newcomer’s guide for Tallassee.  This is beneficial to our community and helps us show tourists and interested transplants how beautiful and interesting “36078” can be for them.

The Chamber of Commerce was no doubt busy with activities and projects in 2012. From Arbor Day, Team Up to Clean Up, and Trade Day to TallasseeNOW, Tiger Night, and the Christmas Parade,  it has been an eventful year and 2013 looks to be even better.  You will see the Chamber of Commerce focus on improving some of these activities.  Changing and improving means more man power.  ALL of our activities are organized by volunteers.  Local people dedicating their time to Tallassee.   Our volunteers are a blessing and the lifeblood to the Chamber of Commerce.

One of our proudest accomplishments in 2012 was partnering with Tallassee City Schools to create an Ambassador Program.  The current superintendent and former board member of Tallassee City Schools, Dr. Kenneth Varner, assisted with the curriculum and criteria. This program was initiated in August 2012 with four candidates all of which are local Tallassee High School seniors.  The program challenges the students to attend chamber activities but to also learn about Tallassee by attending city council meetings and registering to vote.   The Chamber of Commerce is proud and honored to have future leaders in our community learning and becoming passionate about Tallassee.

Thankfully, Tallassee has an excellent business community that is supportive, determined, motivated, and passionate.  Throughout 2012, many local businesses faced economic challenges which some were very prosperous. The Chamber of Commerce saw new businesses open and a founding industrial group have its ruby anniversary. Tallassee is not just a mill town anymore; its evolving and so is our businesses community. Now and in the coming year, remember to shop local and dine local. Before you shop out of town, ask a “local” business so you can be “local” and go “local.” It’s what counts and more importantly it’s the cause and effect to prosperity in Tallassee.

As we move into the New Year, the Chamber of Commerce will focus activities on our business community and promoting our businesses.  The board of directors will be tirelessly looking for ways to help commerce in Tallassee, bring attention to our members all while assisting the City of Tallassee with making Tallassee a great place to live, work, and play. The motto for 2013 will “Change is good.” “More is Better” and “Hard work Pays Off.”  The Greater Tallassee Chamber of Commerce is up to the task and will be motivated on the future.
