Elmore County bands perform in Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game | Events
The Tallassee High School Band, under the direction of Mr. Robby Glasscock, had a memorable week of performances in December - especially being one of the bands selected for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game held at historic Cramton Bowl in downtown Montgomery on Saturday.
Mr. Glasscock, a former drum major of the Troy University "Sound of the South" band, was also chosen to conduct a pre-game performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" featuring the combined bands of Tallassee High School and Wetumpka High School with over 200 musicians on the field.
The THS Concert and Symphonic Bands performed their annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, and the Tallassee High School Jazz Band also served as the official entertainment for the Alabama Association of School Boards annual meeting in Birmingham earlier in the week.
All of these performances bring great honor to the Superior-rated Pride of Tallassee, which includes over 110 students from the eastern Elmore County high school. The THS Band performed as the Alabama representative at the game. Its band staff includes Mr. Robby Glasscock, Mr. Michael Bird, Mrs. Brooke Barron, and Mr. Mike Hammonds.
The Wetumpka High School Band, from central Elmore County, is led by Mr. Jason Warnix and Mrs. Diana Frazier, and consists of approximately 70 members. The WHS Band performed as the Mississippi representative at the game. The Wetumpka bands will hold their Christmas Concerts this week at the Wetumpka Commons.
The Tallassee and Wetumpka bands were chosen by Mr. Kerry Palmer, halftime director for the All-Star Game and currently middle school principal at Trinity Presbyterian School in Montgomery. Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Frazier, Mr. Bird, and Mr. Glasscock were all a part of the Troy University band program and were appreciative of the connection between Cramton Bowl and their former band director Dr. Johnny Long, who was the halftime director of the Blue-Gray Classic for many years at the historic facility.
The Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game is sponsored by the Montgomery Lions Club and was aired regionally by Raycom Media and locally by WSFA-TV 12. Graham Dunn of River Region Sports handled the play-by-play at the stadium, and WSFA's Jeff Shearer on television.
