PowerSouth recognized for safety milestones

ANDALUSIA, Ala. – Liberty Mutual Insurance, PowerSouth’s workers’ compensation, auto and general liability insurance provider, has recognized the company for another remarkable year of safety in 2012. PowerSouth as a whole achieved a full calendar year with no lost-time accidents – over 1.2 million hours worked safely by more than 500 employees.

PowerSouth continues to set the bar for safety standards in the electric generation and transmission industry. The company’s overall DART (Days Away/Restricted or Transfer) Rate is currently 0.33.  The rate reflects the number of recordable injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time employees that resulted in days away from work, restricted work activity and/or job transfer in any given timeframe. As such, the company received Liberty Mutual’s Silver Safety Award.

The end of an era at the Tallassee Super Foods

The end of an era at the Tallassee Super Foods

Attached are two photos from the last night of Super Foods at its original location in the Tallassee Shopping Center.  Picture 46 is an empty aisle.  Picture 53 is David, Linda, and Gene Lawrence locking the door to the original store for the very last time at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013.

The manager on duty for the last night of operation was Dot Ballard.  Two crews were at work: one at the old store clearing the shelves and moving equipment, supervised by Hollis Mann; and one at the new store stocking and getting everything ready for opening day, supervised by Craig Webster.

According to Linda Watson Lawrence, her father opened the Big Bear store in Tallassee on August 5, 1967 as part of the Hudson-Thompson grocery company.  Within the first year, he owned the store as an independent grocer.  Gene Lawrence was among the original employees, married Linda later on, and eventually owned the business.

Hardware failure causes headaches at Guardian Credit Union

Hardware failure causes headaches at Guardian Credit Union

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - A hardware failure at Guardian Credit Union caused headaches at all eight local branches this morning.

According to a spokesperson, a piece of hardware failed overnight - when customers went in to the bank branch to access their accounts, they were unable to do so from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

It took a few hours for the part needed to repair the hardware to arrive from Birmingham. Officials with the Credit Union say things should be working normally now and they apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

The spokesperson also stated the outage did not affect debit card users - only users who entered the bank to withdraw money. They were able to use offline measures to give out a limited amount of cash as needed.

Guardian Credit Union has eight branches in the River Region - five in Montgomery, two in Prattville and one in Tallassee.
